Sliding Mirrored Fitted Wardrobes in Great Baddow, Chelmsford

Sliding Mirrored Fitted Wardrobes in Great Baddow | Chelmsford Wardrobes

This project in Great Baddow, Chelmsford involved upgrading two bedrooms that still had the original house builder wardrobes fitted when the house was first built.

These older wardrobes were very basic, with studwork forming a recess, simple internal doors on the front, and only a top shelf and hanging rail inside. The customer wanted better storage, a cleaner finish, and a more modern look that would also help brighten the rooms.

We removed the old wardrobe structures completely, opened the spaces up, arranged for the areas to be plastered, and then returned once decorated to install bespoke sliding fitted wardrobes in both rooms.

This Sliding Fitted Wardrobe Project Summary

The main issue here was the lack of useful storage from the original builder wardrobes. Although they gave the appearance of fitted storage, they did not make good use of the full height or depth of the room and felt dated.

For this project, we stripped out the original studwork, plasterboard, doors and frames to open both wardrobe areas up properly. This allowed us to remove the boxed bulkhead above and create more usable height. Once the walls had been plastered and painted, we returned to install our bespoke sliding wardrobes.

The finished wardrobes give both bedrooms a much cleaner look and far more practical storage. We also added shelving with bespoke spacing to suit the customer’s existing storage boxes, so the internals were planned around how the customer would actually use the space. This is a good example of how sliding wardrobes can improve both storage and day-to-day practicality in bedrooms where older built-in wardrobes are no longer working well.

Chelmsford Sliding Wardrobe Design and Finish

Both new wardrobes were finished in Matt White internally and externally to keep the rooms feeling bright and simple. The sliding doors also helped save space compared with hinged doors, while the mirrored sections brought more light into the bedrooms.

A standout feature in the master bedroom was the use of painted back glass in white alongside mirrored panels, creating a clean stripe effect across the sliding doors. This gave the room a more finished, modern feel while still keeping the design practical.

Because the old wardrobes had been restricting storage for years, the main focus was to maximise what the openings could offer. By opening the spaces up fully and fitting made-to-measure wardrobes, we were able to create a much better result than the original builder wardrobes ever provided.

If you are looking at replacing older built-ins, this project is a useful example of how fitted wardrobes in Essex can be tailored to suit the room properly rather than simply working around what was there before.
