Fitted Wardrobes in Ipswich: Matt Onyx Bedroom Installation Details

A closer look at our Ipswich fitted wardrobe project, featuring the Blyton modern matt range, push-to-open handleless doors, symmetrical bedroom storage and Egger Grey Linen interiors.

Designing Bespoke Handleless Fitted Wardrobes for an Ipswich Bedroom

For this fitted wardrobe project in Ipswich, Suffolk, the customer wanted a modern bedroom storage solution with a dark, understated finish and a clean, uncluttered appearance. The result was a full run of matt Onyx fitted wardrobes, designed with four individual storage sections and push-to-open doors throughout.

We used our Blyton fitted wardrobe range, choosing its flat slab matt Onyx finish for both the doors and surrounding panels. The uninterrupted dark exterior creates a contemporary fitted bedroom design without visible handles.

The bedroom wall measured 3,232mm wide from left to right. To keep the finished wardrobes balanced, we planned a symmetrical layout: a 1,000mm-wide double wardrobe on each outside position, with two 500mm-wide single wardrobes in the centre.

This arrangement makes good use of the available wall while giving different sections a specific purpose. The wider double wardrobes provide hanging space, while the narrower central units combine drawers and shelves for folded clothing and smaller items.

All doors were fitted with push-to-open mechanisms. Rather than adding conventional knobs or pull handles, the customer can open each door by applying pressure to the front, preserving the simple appearance of the flat slab Onyx doors.

The interior finish was Egger Grey Linen, a light grey fabric-effect finish that contrasts with the dark wardrobe exterior. It gives the hanging and shelving areas a lighter appearance when the doors are open.

Starting on the left-hand side, the first 1,000mm-wide double wardrobe includes an internal shelf with double hanging beneath. This provides two levels of hanging storage, helping organise shirts, jackets, trousers and shorter garments.

The next wardrobe, a 500mm-wide single unit, contains an internal drawer chest in the lower section, with four adjustable shelves above. The second 500mm-wide central wardrobe follows the same arrangement, creating a balanced pair of shelving and drawer units.

Having the drawers inside the wardrobes meant the customer could include convenient smaller-item storage without adding external drawer fronts to the sleek, handleless appearance.

The final 1,000mm-wide double wardrobe on the right mirrors the left-hand side, with one upper shelf and double hanging below. The two larger outer units therefore provide matching hanging storage around the centrally positioned shelves and drawers.

The room height was 2,330mm, and we manufactured the fitted wardrobes at 2,230mm high, leaving a 100mm difference for the finishing surround. The finished installation uses the height of the room while retaining the clean fitted appearance the customer wanted.

These made to measure fitted wardrobes in Suffolk demonstrate how a simple door finish and thoughtful interior layout can create a practical bedroom storage solution without complicated detailing.

The customer was very pleased with the completed Ipswich installation and subsequently chose Simply Fitted Wardrobes for further projects elsewhere in the property.

Fitted Wardrobes Ipswich: Helpful Advice & Frequently Asked Questions

Considering bespoke fitted wardrobes in Ipswich? Here are some practical answers about handleless wardrobe doors, modern matt finishes, internal storage and the design choices used in this genuine Suffolk installation.

Choosing Modern Handleless Fitted Wardrobes for Your Bedroom

Handleless fitted wardrobes are a popular option for homeowners who prefer a simple, contemporary bedroom design. Without visible knobs or handles interrupting the door fronts, flat slab wardrobes can create a consistent finish across a large wall.

For this Ipswich fitted wardrobe installation, we used matt Onyx Blyton doors with push-to-open mechanisms. This meant all four wardrobe sections could be opened without adding external handles, preserving the clean appearance of the dark wardrobe frontage.

The interior was designed separately from the exterior. The two larger outside wardrobes provide hanging storage, while the two narrower centre sections contain internal drawer chests and adjustable shelves.

That symmetrical layout gives the customer practical storage for different types of clothing without changing the appearance of the main doors. Egger Grey Linen interiors also provide a lighter contrast when the doors are open.

When planning fitted wardrobes in Ipswich or elsewhere in Suffolk, it is worth considering whether push-to-open doors suit your everyday preferences, along with how much hanging, shelving and drawer storage you actually need.
