Fitted Wardrobes in Basildon – Bespoke Mirrored Door Design
These bespoke fitted wardrobes in Basildon, Essex, were designed and installed for the master bedroom of a customer who wanted to recreate a distinctive wardrobe design he had seen online. The finished installation combines symmetrical matt white doors, narrow vertical mirror strips and subtle lighting beneath the furniture.
Using our Rockingham fitted wardrobe range, we created a customised flat slab door arrangement rather than the usual shaker-panel appearance. The central doors were made with bespoke vertical mirrored sections to achieve the specific proportions the customer wanted.
Behind the doors are Egger Anthracite Linen interiors, with a combination of long hanging, double hanging, adjustable shelves and dedicated shoe storage. The three wardrobes were made to measure for the available wall, while concealed warm white LEDs illuminate the recessed plinth.

Bespoke Mirrored Fitted Wardrobes in Basildon: The Project Details
How we created this distinctive matt white bedroom installation, with custom mirrored centre doors, three carefully planned wardrobe interiors and concealed warm white LED lighting along the plinth.
Recreating a Customer's Chosen Wardrobe Design
For this master bedroom in Basildon, Essex, the customer came to us with a clear idea of how he wanted his fitted wardrobes to look. Having spent his working life building houses, he had seen a particular design online and wanted to achieve the same carefully balanced appearance in his own bedroom.
The main feature was a pair of central doors with narrow vertical mirrored sections, surrounded by plain doors. Rather than selecting a standard wardrobe design and accepting its fixed proportions, the customer wanted to choose exactly how the mirrored panels and surrounding plain sections would be arranged.
We used our Rockingham fitted wardrobe range, customised with flat slab doors in a matt white finish for this installation. Although Rockingham is commonly associated with shaker designs, these doors were specifically produced with a plain flat appearance and bespoke mirror detailing in the central pair.
The bedroom wall measured 3,135mm from side to side, with a floor-to-ceiling height of 2,475mm. We divided the main furniture into three equal 1,000mm-wide double wardrobes, producing a symmetrical arrangement across the wall.
Each of the two outer double wardrobes has plain matt white doors. The central double wardrobe is different: its pair of doors includes full-height mirror strips, approximately 150mm wide each, with flat matt white sections either side.
Each central door was designed around a 500mm width. The customer specified a substantial 300mm-wide plain section alongside a 150mm mirrored strip, with the remaining door area finished in the same matt white material. The two central doors were arranged as a symmetrical pair, creating a distinctive vertical mirror design rather than conventional fully mirrored doors.
Behind the doors, the customer chose Egger Anthracite Linen for the full wardrobe interiors. The darker internal finish contrasts with the matt white exterior and gives the hanging and shelving sections a consistent appearance.
Looking from left to right, the first double wardrobe includes a top shelf with long hanging below. An additional adjustable shelf at the bottom provides practical space for shoes.
The central 1,000mm wardrobe has a full-height vertical internal divider. The wider left-hand section, planned at approximately 650mm, provides double hanging. The remaining right-hand section contains six adjustable shelves for folded clothing and smaller items.
Inside the third double wardrobe, on the far right, there is an upper shelf with double hanging below. Each wardrobe therefore serves a slightly different purpose while keeping the exterior completely balanced.
The overall furniture height was 2,340mm, including the 150mm plinth. We fitted the furniture on adjustable cabinet legs and deliberately set the plinth back behind the front edge of the wardrobes.
This recessed detail allowed a continuous warm white LED strip to be installed beneath the furniture, out of direct view. When illuminated, the strip produces a soft glow across the carpet at the base of the wardrobes without an exposed light fitting being visible from the front.
The completed installation combines the exact visual details the customer wanted with a practical interior layout. The finished doors create the symmetrical, modern look he had chosen, while the shelving, hanging storage and discreet lighting are all designed around his bedroom.

Custom Full-Height Mirrored Door Details
The two central doors were designed with narrow, full-height mirrored strips positioned within matt white flat slab panels. The customer could specify the proportions of the mirrored and plain sections, helping recreate the particular design he wanted for his bedroom.
Hanging Space, Shoe Storage and Adjustable Shelves
Each of the three wardrobes has a different internal arrangement. The left provides long hanging and shoe storage, the centre combines double hanging with six adjustable shelves, and the right provides double hanging and an upper shelf. The Anthracite Linen finish ties the different interiors together.
Concealed Warm White Plinth Lighting
A recessed 150mm plinth allowed warm white LED lighting to sit out of view beneath the wardrobes. This creates a continuous soft glow across the bedroom floor and adds a subtle contemporary feature without changing the clean lines of the doors.
Can You Customise Fitted Wardrobe Doors to Match a Design You've Seen?
Yes, depending on the chosen range and the practical construction of the design. For this Basildon installation, the customer arrived with a specific idea for the central doors. By agreeing the proportions of the plain panels and vertical mirror strips before manufacturing, we were able to create a fitted wardrobe frontage with the appearance he wanted, while still planning the wardrobe interiors around everyday storage needs. If you have a design photograph, share it when enquiring about your own made to measure fitted wardrobes.

Helpful Advice & FAQs About These Basildon Fitted Wardrobes
Thinking about custom mirrored doors, adjustable shelving or concealed lighting? Here are some useful considerations from this real fitted wardrobe installation in Basildon.
Planning Bespoke Fitted Wardrobes from Your Own Design Inspiration
Sometimes a customer knows exactly what they want their fitted wardrobes to look like before they start choosing colours or planning internal storage. They may have seen a particular photograph, a mirror arrangement or a door design that they would like to recreate in their own bedroom.
For this Basildon installation, the customer wanted three symmetrical double wardrobes with a very specific detail on the central pair of doors. He liked the clean appearance of plain matt white doors but wanted narrow mirrors running vertically through the centre of the furniture.
By planning the door proportions carefully, we were able to achieve the desired appearance without making the other wardrobe doors mirrored. The result looks balanced across the entire wall, while still giving the customer the mirrors he wanted.
However, the appearance is only part of a good design. Behind these doors, the storage was organised for different types of clothing, with long hanging, double hanging, adjustable shelves and shoe storage. This means the interiors work independently of the exterior design.
The recessed LED plinth provides a final finishing touch. Rather than placing visible lighting on the doors, the warm white strip was hidden beneath the furniture to create a soft glow across the floor.
If you have saved an example of a wardrobe design you like, send us the photograph together with your room dimensions. You can also explore our fitted wardrobe ranges and interior storage options.
Small changes in the width and position of mirrored sections can make a noticeable difference to the overall design.
Long hanging, double hanging and adjustable shelves can be combined behind a consistent set of exterior doors.
A recessed plinth allows the LED strip to remain discreet while creating a warm effect at floor level.

Can you recreate a fitted wardrobe design from a photograph?
We can assess photographs and design references to see what is practical for your room and chosen wardrobe range. For this Basildon installation, the customer provided a design idea and we worked with his preferred door and mirror proportions to create the finished appearance.
Can Rockingham fitted wardrobes have flat slab doors?
Rockingham is commonly shown with traditional shaker styling, but this particular project used a customised flat slab door arrangement from the range. The two central doors were made with narrow full-height mirror strips, while the outer wardrobes retained plain matt white doors.
Can mirrored wardrobe doors be customised?
Yes, where the door design and construction allow it. In this project, the customer chose approximately 150mm-wide vertical mirrored strips for the central pair of doors, with plain matt white sections alongside them. The mirrors were arranged symmetrically rather than covering the entire doors.
What storage is inside these fitted wardrobes?
The left wardrobe provides long hanging, a top shelf and a lower adjustable shelf for shoes. The centre combines double hanging with six adjustable shelves, while the right wardrobe has double hanging and an upper shelf. All the interiors are finished in Egger Anthracite Linen.
Can LED lighting be hidden beneath fitted wardrobes?
Yes. For this installation, the plinth was recessed behind the front edge of the wardrobes, allowing a warm white LED strip to be concealed beneath the furniture. This creates a gentle illuminated effect across the bedroom floor without a visible light fitting at the front.
What door and interior colours were used?
The doors were finished in matt white, with two narrow mirrored strips in the central pair. Egger Anthracite Linen was used for the wardrobe interiors, creating a darker contrast when the doors are open.
Are these fitted wardrobes full carcass?
Yes. These are made to measure full-carcass fitted wardrobes with individually planned internal sections. The storage layout was designed around the customer's hanging, shelving and shoe-storage requirements, while the bespoke doors create the finished exterior appearance.
How much do bespoke fitted wardrobes like these cost?
The cost depends on the wardrobe dimensions, range, door design, mirrored sections, interior layout and extras such as lighting. You can read our fitted wardrobe cost guide or send us photographs and approximate measurements for an initial quotation.
