Shaker Fitted Wardrobes in Shenfield, Essex

Shaker Fitted Wardrobes in Shenfield, Essex

These made to measure shaker fitted wardrobes in Shenfield, Essex were designed for one bedroom within a larger four-room fitted furniture project. The wardrobes use our Rockingham fitted wardrobe range in Cashmere Ash Embossed, paired with Egger Grey Lorenzo Oak interiors.

The bedroom included a particularly deep alcove, so the wardrobe was set back into the available depth rather than bringing all of the furniture forward into the room. This helped retain more usable floor space while still making practical use of the alcove for storage.

The finished design includes corner access through two double-door openings, long hanging, drawers and Pimlico bar handles. At 2,300 mm high beneath a 2,398 mm ceiling, it is a detailed real-world example of how fitted wardrobes in Essex can be planned around the proportions of an individual room.

Rockingham Shaker Fitted Wardrobes in Shenfield: Design & Specification

A closer look at the Cashmere Ash Embossed Rockingham wardrobes, Grey Lorenzo Oak interiors, 2,300 mm wardrobe height, corner access and the design decision that made better use of a particularly deep bedroom alcove.

Using a Deep Alcove Without Crowding the Room

This Shenfield bedroom formed one part of a four-room fitted furniture project in the same property. The wider job came to Simply Fitted Wardrobes through a recommendation after we had previously completed a full-property installation for a member of the customer's family nearby.

For this room, the main challenge was the unusually deep alcove. Bringing the wardrobe fronts unnecessarily far into the room would have reduced the clear floor area available for getting ready, so the furniture was set back into the alcove to take advantage of its depth while keeping more usable space in front of the wardrobes.

The doors are from our Rockingham shaker fitted wardrobe range, a Price Group 5 range with the classic panelled appearance used throughout this bedroom. The confirmed finish for this project is Cashmere Ash Embossed, giving the shaker doors a subtle woodgrain texture and natural painted-timber appearance.

Inside, the customer chose Egger Grey Lorenzo Oak. Its muted grey-brown woodgrain tones work particularly well against the warmer Cashmere doors and the soft beige and cream finishes used around the bedroom. The storage combines hanging space with drawers, while the corner includes long hanging behind two double-door openings so the deeper area remains accessible.

The wardrobes were manufactured at 2,300 mm high to suit the bedroom's 2,398 mm ceiling. The fitted furniture also uses our full 18mm carcass construction as standard, with 18mm sides, bases and tops plus solid 18mm backs. The carcass construction is separate from the Rockingham range doors and allows the internal sections to be made to suit the room and storage layout.

The Customer Brief

Practical Storage Without Losing Dressing Space

The bedroom needed generous fitted wardrobe storage, including hanging and drawers, while keeping enough clear space in the room to move around and get ready comfortably.

The Design Challenge

A Particularly Deep Alcove

The alcove created useful depth but could easily have resulted in furniture projecting too far into the room. The corner also needed to remain accessible rather than becoming difficult-to-reach storage.

The Solution

Set-Back Wardrobes with Full Corner Access

Setting the wardrobes farther back used the alcove depth while retaining more floor space. Two double-door openings make the corner easier to access, with long hanging and drawers planned around the available space.

Planning Fitted Wardrobes Around a Deep Alcove

A deep recess does not automatically mean the wardrobe fronts should be brought forward to the shallowest point in the room. A made to measure design can use the available depth selectively, preserve valuable floor space and plan the corner around practical access. The exterior proportions, wardrobe interior layout and full carcass construction should all be considered together rather than treating the alcove as a standard straight wardrobe run.

Helpful Advice for Fitted Wardrobes in Deep Alcoves & Corners

Practical guidance from this Shenfield fitted wardrobe project, including deep alcoves, corner access, Rockingham shaker doors, Grey Lorenzo Oak interiors, wardrobe height and full 18mm carcass construction.

Deep Alcoves & Corner Wardrobes: What Matters

A deep alcove can offer valuable storage space, but filling all of that depth in the wrong way can make a bedroom feel smaller. The position of the wardrobe fronts should be considered alongside the usable floor space in front of them, not simply dictated by the deepest point in the wall.

On this Shenfield project, the wardrobe was deliberately set farther back into the alcove. That allowed the design to use more of the available recess while retaining additional space in the room for getting ready.

Corner storage also needs to be designed around access. Here, two double-door openings provide fuller access into the corner, where long hanging could be used alongside drawer storage elsewhere in the fitted furniture.

Deep Alcove Design Use the depth without sacrificing useful floor space

Setting furniture farther into a recess can help keep more clear space in front of the wardrobes when the room layout allows it.

Corner Access Plan doors around what needs to be reached inside

The double-door corner arrangement in this project was chosen to provide fuller access to the long-hanging section.

Room Proportions Wardrobe height should be designed around the actual ceiling

These wardrobes were made at 2,300 mm high for a bedroom with a measured ceiling height of 2,398 mm.

How did the design make use of the deep alcove?

The wardrobe was set farther back into the particularly deep alcove so the design could use more of the available depth without bringing the wardrobe fronts unnecessarily far into the room. This retained more usable floor space in front of the fitted furniture and required a particularly deep M-panel as part of the finished design.

How was the corner wardrobe made easier to access?

The corner was designed with two double-door openings to give fuller access into the deeper corner storage. The corner section includes long hanging, with drawers also incorporated into the overall wardrobe storage layout.

What interior finish and storage were used?

The wardrobes use Egger Grey Lorenzo Oak internally, contrasting with the Cashmere Ash Embossed shaker doors. The storage includes a mixture of hanging space, long hanging in the corner and drawers.

The muted tones in Grey Lorenzo Oak work well with the Cashmere doors and the beige and cream tones used around this bedroom. More interior ideas are available on our wardrobe interiors page.

How high are the fitted wardrobes in this project?

The wardrobes were made at 2,300 mm high to suit a confirmed bedroom ceiling height of 2,398 mm. Designing the furniture around the measured room height allowed the overall proportions to be planned specifically for this Shenfield bedroom.

What does full 18mm carcass construction mean?

Simply Fitted Wardrobes uses full 18mm carcass construction as standard, with 18mm sides, 18mm bases, 18mm tops and solid 18mm backs. The carcasses are made to suit the required sizes, shapes and interior layouts.

The carcass construction is separate from the wardrobe doors. On this project, the exterior doors are Rockingham range shaker doors in Cashmere Ash Embossed.

How much do fitted wardrobes like this cost?

The final cost depends on the size and amount of furniture, wardrobe range, door finish, interior layout, handles and design details such as corner storage or unusually deep alcoves. No project price has been published for this Shenfield installation, so a current quote would need to be based on the room and specification required.
